3 When we talk about the weather, sometimes we use adjectives and sometimes we use nouns. We often form these adjectives by adding -y to the nouns. It has been rainy the whole week. We got 5 cm of rain in just one day. In Bali, it is often misty in the morning. However, the mist disappears by 9 or 10 a.m.

4 For nouns which end in -e, we change the -e to -y. The roads are covered with ice. Be careful when you drive on icy roads. The sun is shining brightly today. I love sunny days. For some short nouns, we double the last consonant before adding -y.

5 Change the following nouns into adjectives. breeze  breezy ice  icy chill  chilly mist  misty cloud  cloudy rain  rainy drizzle  drizzly shower  showery fog  foggy snow  snowy frost  frosty storm  stormy gloom  gloomy sun  sunny haze  hazy thunder  thundery heat  hot wind  windy humidity  humid The adjective ‘breezy’ is slightly different in meaning from its noun form ‘breeze’. ‘Breezy’ suggests the wind is blowing quite strongly while a ‘breeze’ is a gentle wind.
