ICA on-line shopping & on-line banking

On-line shopping In early days of internet this was limited due to concerns over security of personal and bank details Now a major use of the internet

The Process of on-line shopping Usually begins with a search Most on-line shopping websites use a shopping basket or cart When finished shopping you go to the checkout

Paying for your purchases When using on-line shopping you will be expected to pay for the goods that you order using a bank card and EFT ( Electronic Funds Transfer )

Types of Bank Card Cheque guarantee cards Credit cards Debit cards Cash cards Multifunction cards

IMPORTANT You should never tell anyone your PIN ( Personal Identification Number) No-one not even bank staff If you do give out your PIN, and your card is used without your permission, then you will not get any money back!

Advantages of on-line shopping for companies Lower transaction costs – cheaper to sell on-line. Only one shop is needed instead of many shops all over a country. Larger purchases per transaction – customers can be tempted to buy other goods related to the particular item they have bought. Shops will benefit if they are always open for “impulse” purchases by customers

Advantages of on-line shopping for customers The shop is open 24hours a day, people can shop from the comfort of their own home It is easy for customers to search through a large number of goods It is easy for customers to compare prices between sellers People can build an order over a few visits to a website, this gives the customer more time to consider their purchase

On-Line Banking A statement allows the customer to keep track of all the transactions on the account Services include money transfer and payments Standing orders Direct debits

Advantages for the customer The customer does not need to travel to the branch to do any of their banking The customer can stay at home and carry out all of their business on-line, and at a time which suits them On-line banks are available 24 hours a day

Advantages for the bank Shares some of the advantages of on-line shopping – the on-line bank does not need any branches for people to visit The development of on-line banking has helped increase the use of bank cards and decrease the use of cash On-line banks which do not have any branches do not need to handle any cash at all, this sabes the bank a great deal of money in the cost of staff and buildings
