8 What are the dangers of these technologies? Identity Fraud/Hacking Viruses Trolling/Bullying Seeing inappropriate content Spending money accidentally People knowing/seeing/using information about you

9 What do we do in school? Content Contact Conduct Understanding anyone can make a website. Knowing what to look for when assessing a website’s validity. Understanding who content belongs to. Looking at the impact of wrong or inappropriate information. Keeping personal information secure. Understanding that online communication can be monitored Knowing that anyone can create an alias/avatar. Knowing how to report. Respecting the work of others. Understanding the risks of new technologies. Know that a digital footprint lasts forever

12 What can you do at home?

14 Be open and talk about the technologies before they have been embedded.

15 Set expectation and rules in relation to time spent and content accessed.

16 Show an interest in what your child is assessing online and have a go yourself.

17 Set up parental controls and filters on computers, consoles and mobile devices.

18 Think about where technologies are being used.

19 Make sure antiviral software is up to date and working.

20 Final thoughts ‘The biggest internet danger is that we concentrate on the danger and ignore the benefits.’ Staying safe? Great resource?

21 Our message to you: Talk and monitor rather than ban (children will just do things in secret) Ensure your children know to tell an adult when something goes wrong Take an interest! Once something is posted to the internet it is there forever Ensure personal details are not put on the internet Do you know your children’s followers? Check safety on devices Don’t write anything on the internet that you wouldn’t say face to face Age restrictions for games are there for a reason
