11 THE RISKS ARE REAL Operation Hattie From Kuwait, two men targeted their young victims aged between 12 and 16 in 13 different countries around the world on social networking and instant messaging applications, often pretending to be someone the children already knew. They would then trick victims into giving them their online passwords using a link, before threatening them into engaging in inappropriate sexual activities via webcam. The level of sexual abuse victims were subjected to, and the harm caused, was extreme. 110 children, including 78 in the UK, were targeted by these offenders, who, in December 2012, were each jailed for five years for their offences.
