4   P. 8 of LHS curriculum guide  You must take the following courses next year  English 9 or Pre-AP English 9  A Math class  World History or Pre-AP World History  Physical Science or Pre-AP Biology  PE (unless using PE exemption)  Computer Tech (if you did not take/pass course in 8 th )  Health (for HS credit)  All students in Class of 2019 must take 1.0 of Fine Art (visual or performing grades 7-12) 9 th grade required courses

5   (SWAS)  All 9 th graders are placed on a team which consists of 4 teachers who meet weekly to discuss student progress  English, Math, Science, Social Studies  Each team has about 60 students on it  Like a smaller school within LHS  Students can earn incentives based on behavior/ attendance and academic performance in 9 th grade School Within a School Concept

6   You will need to earn 22 high school credits to graduate  P. 8 of curriculum guide shows which ones you need  You will need 4 English, 4 Math (including Algebra II), 3 Science and 3 Social Studies  2.5 additional credits must include Computer Technology, Health, Careers and PE.  1.0 credit of Fine Arts (grades 7-12, Visual or Performing Arts)  ODE requires students to pass the End of Course Exams/ achieve non-medial ACT scores as part of your graduation requirements. 9  Diploma with Honors  Gold seal on diploma, silver cords at graduation  This is a big deal when applying to college and scholarships!!  Be sure you take the right classes to be considered for this p.3  Three years foreign language  English, Math and science requirements as well  Valedictorian is the person that graduates with the highest GPA at the end of senior year. See p.9 Stay on college-prep track with Advanced coursework

10   *Student must meet any seven (7) of the following eight (8) criteria*  1. Four units of English  2. Four units of Math that include Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry or equivalent and another higher level course or a four-year sequence of courses that contain equivalent content  3. Four units of Science including physics and chemistry or AP  4. Four units of Social Studies  5. Three units of Foreign Language, including at least 2 units in each language studied  6. One unit of Fine Arts (visual or performing)  7. Maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale up to the last grading period of the senior year  8. Obtain a composite score of 27 on the ACT or an equivalent composite score of 1210 on the SAT Diploma with Honors criteria

13   Programs are a two-year commitment and the junior class is selected from all the county high schools  LHS hosts CIS (Computer Information Systems)  To be a good candidate you need to have your 9 th and 10 th courses DONE:  2 English credits  2 Math including Algebra I  2 Science  2 Social Studies  0.5 PE  0.5 Health  0.5 Careers  0.5 Computer Technology Are you considering CTEC?

14   Computer Information Systems (CIS)  Two year commitment- junior and senior year  Earn both HS and college credits (from COTC) that transfer to other 2 and 4 year public OH colleges  Program is housed at LHS  In order to be a good candidate, you need to pass your 9 th and 10 th grade courses CIS at Lakewood

16   Test Out/Demonstrated Mastery  Apply to test out  Must score 85% or better on all required tests  If you earn an 84%, you earn an F in the class  Independent Study  You talk with a teacher to work with you on an independent study  You complete all of the coursework for the class and agree to do it on your own time  You will meet with teacher at scheduled times to pick up and drop off work/ take tests  Other Educational Options  Online courses, service learning, educational travel, mentorship  Student works with a teacher/ mentor to design an experience and submits a proposal to the Credit Flex committee for pre-approval  See a counselor to obtain application materials to get started Credit Flex is here!

17   At LHS students and staff believe in a community of mutual respect  Students are promoted to the next level in courses after they are successfully completed.  At LHS you must pass a course in order to move on  If you chose to fail a course, you will repeat that course until you master it  We have a strong code for academic honesty and work ethic; zero tolerance for academic dishonesty  LHS has high standards of conduct  Appropriate positive behavior will be rewarded, and inappropriate behavior will be identified and corrected Academic and Behavioral Expectations

18   If you completed two full seasons of a sport, band, or cheerleading you may be excused from taking PE classes  Two seasons cannot be in the same year  Two full seasons means two consecutive years of the same activity  No partial PE exemptions will be granted  Two seasons must be done by end of junior year  You would need to complete ½ credit in another high school elective  Form will be completed after 2 nd season is complete and turned into Mr. Hanson. How can I be eligible for the PE Exemption?

19   Use the Table of Contents to find courses and other important LHS info  Turn to p.8 for graduation requirements  Refer to class scheduling for a typical 9 th grader at the bottom  Students may only take courses listed on the PINK SHEET.  The LHS guide lists all courses we offer, so you may take more electives in 10 th, 11 th and 12 th grade.  Be sure to do your research to read about LHS courses you can take. 23   Take the scheduling materials home to parent(s) to discuss courses, graduation requirements, and electives  Pick electives in order of preference  List them on pick sheet under required classes  Ask teachers for appropriate signatures for correct placement  DO NOT schedule Data Processing or Health if you successfully completed them in 8 th grade Scheduling

24   You need to have conversations with your parent(s) and teachers about courses you will take at LHS before this date  Take courses that are best for you in terms of your strengths, interest, and plans after LHS graduation  All 9 th graders will have lunch together daily= social time  Students should take courses that challenge their academic growth Scheduling
