2 Workshop Goals 1.Share knowledge about mechanisms that prevent & limit unnecessary immigration, with a focus on alternatives to detention. 2.To share strategies on how to engage with governments on implementing these mechanisms. 3.To equip participants with knowledge of key concepts on preventive monitoring of immigration detention and the role of NGOs in relation to monitoring. 4.To facilitate networking and future collaboration; feed into IDC’s work and strengthening the EU regional immigration detention network.

15 You have 45 mins to prepare a 10 minute presentation on: Brief immigration detention context: trends and main concerns What ATD are available in law, policy and practice? How are these being implemented? What opportunities/challenges are there for introducing new ATD, expanding or improving existing ATD? Think about what we’ve heard already today – EU law and how it’s being transposed, the broad range of ATD… Detention context and implementation of ATD – opportunities and challenges
