11 DIAC Settlement programs Aim: to support eligible migrants and refugees in their transition to Australian life by helping to build self reliance, developing English language skills, and fostering connections with mainstream services first five years refugee and humanitarian entrants

15 Complex Case Support Specialised and intensive case management services to refugee and humanitarian entrants with exceptional needs that extend beyond the scope of existing settlement services Works in partnership with settlement and mainstream services … to facilitate the transition of clients to independent functioning as soon as practicable Anyone can refer a client for CCS assessment including: –DIAC funded service providers –Commonwealth, state or territory government agencies –Community and health organisations –Volunteer groups –Self referral.

18 Purpose of the CLO Network Maintain contact with approximately 6000 community organisations and representatives Help communities to raise issues of concern Enable government to distribute information in times of difficulty Promote a multicultural society

19 Diversity and Social Cohesion Program Formerly the Diverse Australia Program Aim - to provide an environment in which all Australians can develop a full sense of belonging and participate and contribute to Australian society New funding program is yet to be approved- hopefully will be announced by end of year.

20 Australian Multicultural Advisory Council Council officially launched by the Minister in December 2008. Re- appointed for its 2 nd term in June 2010 ‘Its second-term priorities include providing the government with advice on how best to support migrant settlement in rural and regional locations, and areas with employment opportunities". Statement on cultural diversity policy – The People of Australia. Qld member-Gail Ker Provides independent advice to the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary regarding: –social cohesion issues relating to Australia’s cultural and religious diversity –overcoming intolerance and racism in Australia –communicating the social and economic benefits of Australia’s cultural diversity to the broad community –issues relating to the social and civic participation of migrants in Australian society.
