2 According to THE CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND Article 70 Everyone shall have the right to education. Education to 18 years of age shall be compulsory. Education in public schools shall be without payment. http://www.sejm.gov.pl/prawo/konst/angielski/kon1.htm

3 Compulsory education in Poland can be divided into three stages: Pre-school class- zerówka (5 or 6 years of age) Primary school- szkoła podstawowa (7 to 13 years of age) -Early school education (7 to 10 years of age) -Education based on separate subjects Lower secondary education/ junior high school/ middle school- gimnazjum (13 to 16 years of age)

4 Compulsory subjects in gimnazjum Polish language History Civic education, Modern foreign languages Mathematics Physics and Astronomy Chemistry Biology Geography Art and Music Technology (Crafts) Computer studies Physical education Lessons with a form teacher

5 At the end of the 3-year gimnazjum In April there is a general and obligatory examination. The results of which are indicated on the gimnazjum leaving certificate. This examination checks abilities, skills and knowledge in the field of humanities, science and a foreign language. 6 Post -compulsory education Liceum ogólnokształcące (general upper secondary school) matura exam Technikum (technical upper secondary school) matura exam Zasadnicza szkoła zawodowa (basic vocational school)

7 Higher education State higher education institutions: uniwersytet (university) uniwersytet techniczny (technical university) politechnika (polytechnic) academia (academy) Students are awarded the titles of licencjat (Bachelor degree) or magister (Master degree).
