2 FIU at a Glance FIU is a Public Research University of the State of Florida established in 1972. FIU is the 25 th largest university in the United States and the largest one in South Florida. Currently, FIU has more than 38,000 students and 1,000 full time faculty members. 95% of the University’s full time faculty hold doctorates or the highest degree attainable in their field. FIU offers more than 200 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in 17 colleges and schools.

10 Graduate Assistantships A) Research & Teaching Assistantships (RA & TA) –Admitted as a full time graduate student (9 credits/Fall & Spring semester & 6 credits/summer) –Outstanding GPA >3.0, GRE>1000 & TOEFL >550 Benefit for full support: working 20 hrs/week –Receive $11,500/Fall& Spring for Master Students –Receive $13,000/Fall& Spring for Ph.D. Students –Full tuition waiver ( $ 6526.80/ 9 credit hours) –Students pay only $342.18/semester + other fee of $152.47 Benefit for partial support: working 10 hrs/week –Receive up to $5000/ Fall& Spring Semesters –Non-resident tuition waiver ( $ 4531.41/ 9 credit hours) –Students pay $2337.57/semester + other fee of $152.47 –Note: The current Tuition rate is $6868.98/9 credit hours or $763.22 /credit hour for international graduate student.

11 Graduate Assistantship B) * Faculty Development Program * This program has specially been designed to support active engineering faculty, including Thai Government officials and Corporate’ s employees to obtain an advanced Ph.D. degree in the College of Engineering & Computing at FIU Admission Requirement: –Satisfy all graduate admission requirements/interested area of study –The sponsoring institution is required to sign a contact with FIU detailing the academic, administrative and financial responsibilities of both institutions. Financial Support: –Award amount is approximately $31,934/calendar year. This amount includes a stipend of $15,000/year to defray living expense in Miami and the cost of 24 credits hours per year at the current tuition rates

12 * Details of Faculty Development Program * Student Responsibilities & Requirements: –Engage in classroom lectures & teaching of one course/semester –Required to complete the required course work and pass the qualifying examination within 2 to 3 semesters at FIU –Complete 60 credit beyond master’s degree to earn Ph.D. –Of those 60 credits, 30 credits are for course work and another 30 credits are for dissertation –6 credits of course work may be transferred from Thailand –Select a research topic and a dissertation advisor and then –Return to Thailand to pursue their dissertation research. FIU will pay for the air travel of FIU’ s dissertation advisor to visit the participated Thai University prior to the dissertation research and once a year thereafter. Dissertation committee may be selected from the participated Thai University, if qualified.

13 Graduate Engineering Tuition Scholarship (G.E.T.S.) Eligibility Criteria: –Be an International students or out of state students only –Admitted into a full time graduate program –GPA > 3.2 on 4.0 scale Award Amount: –For GPA >3.8 will receive a tuition scholarship of $400/ credit. –For 3.5 3.79 will receive a tuition scholarship of $275/ credit. –For 3.2 3.49 will receive a tuition scholarship of $150/ credit. 14 Presidential Fellowships Award to exceptional new entering full time Ph.D. students Very Competitive Students have to be Nominated by the School or Department Amount granted = $20,000/year and continue for 3 years Full Tuition waiver Be responsible for an assigned academic task of 20 hours/week Recipients will be subject to an annual review of academic and scholarly progress. Requirement: –GRE scores (verbal and quantitative) > 1300 or –GMAT scores> 640 –Enroll full time

16 Other Financial Aids Additionally, there are several other Financial Aids available at FIU such as: –Dissertation Year Fellowships which provide a stipend of $20,000/12 month. –University-Wide Graduate Scholarships. The award amount is ranging from $1000 - $25,000. Minimum GPA required = 3.5 and demonstrate financial need. 17 Special Program for Undergraduate Students “Dual Degree Program” Students will earn 2 Bachelor Degrees, from FIU and Participated Institutions in Thailand Agreement between FIU and Participated Institutions has to be initiated Required TOEFL Scores > 500 Full time enrollment is required. Students pay Tuition at the discounted rate of $400/credit hour –The current full tuition rate is $517.60/ credit hour. Students may transfer up to 90 credit hours (only “C” or better) to FIU. –Typically, the total credit hours required to complete the Bachelor Degree is 128 credits –International students may spend approximately 3 semesters to complete this Dual Degree Program. (complete 38 credits hours at FIU) –The maximum credit hours allowed to take/semester is 15 credits Syllabus in English of all transferable courses to FIU have to be provided by the home institutions once a year.
