2 What’s it about Flickr is a website that allows people to share their photos with others. You can choose to restrict those who can see your photos to family and friends, or you can let the whole world see them. It has lots of features and this Guide is only an introduction to the basics. Registration If you want to post pictures to Flickr, you will need to have an account on Yahoo! If you don’t have one, it is free and quite straightforward to set up.

Otherwise - on the Flickr home page www.flickr.com click on the Create Your Account button.www.flickr.com This will display a screen that asks you to sign in to Yahoo! Account, and gives you an option to set one up. You don’t have to use your own name, or give any real personal details.

4 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Create an account But you will need to give a real email address and be logged on to it. Yahoo! will send you an email and you will need to verify it to continue. When you have done this, you will be taken to your Yahoo! personal page. This gives you lots of features, including Flickr.

5 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Using Flickr When you go to the Flickr site, you will be asked for your password – your username should be automatically filled in. Enter your password to see the welcome screen.

6 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Upload your photos Click on Upload Photos & Video. This displays the screen below.

7 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Choose photos Step 1 – Choose photos and videos displays a small window that enables you to find the picture you want. Click on the picture that you want to upload, and then click Open.

8 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Uploading pictures The Upload to Flickr window will be displayed. You can Add More pictures if you wish. You can Set privacy at this stage. For personal pictures, you would probably make them private. Then click Upload Photos and Videos. Depending on the number of pictures, their size and the speed of your Internet connection there will be a pause while the files are uploaded. You will then see this message.

9 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube More with pictures If you want to add a description, a page that will be displayed like this. You can give pictures have a tag, eg SSD09 to make them easy to find. Then you have typed it, click ADD. You can add other tags if you wish. Flickr will automatically enter the name of the picture file e.g. HappySilverSurfers.jpg as the Title. If you want to change it, just click on the name and overtype the text. You can also add a Description, with more information. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save. The picture is now in your Photostream. You can do all sorts of things with pictures in your Photostream.

10 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Help Click on Help at the top right of any Flickr page. Then follow the link shown below.

11 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Join groups Click on the More options arrow that appears when you place your mouse on the icon. Select Add [whatever you have found] as a contact. That will tell your friend that you have set up your account and let them see your photos. They can then invite you to join a group. When they do this, you’ll see you have a message, at the top right of your Flickr Home page. Click on the envelope icon to see your messages. Open your invitation, and click Yes to accept.

It contains a wide variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos. Enter the web address www.youtube.com in the address bar of your browser; this is what you will see:www.youtube.com

13 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Create an account 1. To become a member of YouTube, go to the "Signup" page, choose a username and password and enter your information. 2. Then click the "Sign Up" button and it's done. 3. Once you've signed up for a YouTube account, you'll need to confirm your email address in order to activate your new account. 4. The confirmation link that you'll use to confirm your email address is included in a "Welcome" email that you'll receive after signing up for your username.  Confirming your email address is required to perform many actions on YouTube, such as uploading videos and posting comments. 5. New members can follow the steps below to confirm their email: Once you've created your username on our Sign Up page, YouTube will send a confirmation email to the email address that you entered. Click the Confirm Email page link within that email (you can also copy and paste the provided link into your browser, if you prefer). 6. You've finished! You'll be directed to a confirmation page and you can immediately begin exploring the site!

15 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Making videos You'll need to have a device that can capture digital films—this could be a camcorder, digital camera or even your mobile phone! You copy the films to your computer and then you can either upload them as-is or edit them with software, such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to add titles and special effects. For more detailed information, read the Making and Optimising Your Videos guide on the YouTube Help pages. For some types of mobile phones and mobile devices, you can also upload to YouTube directly, without copying the file to your computer first.

17 Transform IT SFT10_Flickr_YouTube Uploading videos Once you've finished editing your video, made sure that it's less than 10 minutes long, smaller than 2 GB in size and in an acceptable format; you're ready to upload it. Click the button in the upper right-hand corner of any YouTube page. Enter as much information about your video as possible, including Title, Description, Tags and Category. The more information that you include, the easier it is for users to find your video! Determine if you want your video set to Public or Private. Click the "Upload a Video..." button. In the next window, click the "Browse" button to browse for the video file. Select the file that you want to upload. Click the "Upload Video" button. It can take from a couple of minutes to an hour for your video to upload to YouTube. If you receive an error message when uploading, you should ensure that you're attempting to upload a file type that's recognised by YouTube. YouTube accepts video files from most digital cameras, camcorders and mobile phones in the.OVI,.MOVE,.MOVE and.MPG file formats.
