11 Ice-Snow workshop, Brno, CZ: 4-7.11.0411 Conclusions  Bjørnøya is a ”hot spot” region for POP contamination in the Arctic.  Levels of POPs in the abiotic environment in Bjørnøya are considerable.  The POP patterns in snow, precipitation and fog are characterised by a surprisingly high variability.  Lakewater samples are contaminated but the POP patterns are relatively stable.  Fog and snow/rain precipitation play play a major role in the deposition process for POPs on Bjørnøya

12 Ice-Snow workshop, Brno, CZ: 4-7.11.0412 Aknowledgement The help and support of many colleagues is highly appreciated: Norwegian Coast The Norwegian Coast guard supported us with transport of equipment and research scientists. crew of the meteorological station The crew of the meteorological station at Bjørnøya help with infrastructure and sample collection. Research Council of NorwayState pollution control Authorities The Research Council of Norway and the State pollution control Authorities supported the Project economically. Anita Evenset Anita Evenset (Akvaplan-niva) helped during the field campaign, Dorte Herzke and Urs Berger Dorte Herzke and Urs Berger (NILU) have performed a part Martin Schlabach of the anaytical work.
