1 Preparación Hoy es lunes, el 20 de abril de 2015 Today is Monday, April 20, 2015  What is another name for Festival?  ______________________________  What is the name of the Festival you saw last class of Medellin,Colombia?  _________________ of ___________.  Can you name a festival we have here in Sacramento?  _____________.

2 Objectives/ Objetivos  Review what a festival is.  See samples of festivals here in Sacramento.  WHAT ARE “PLATOS NACIONALES? “  Find a typical dish of one of the cities of your country of choice  See sample video and recipe of Cuban dish.  Find a recipe of it. Find a video of how is made.  Open up a Power Point with the Name of your Country and your name. 1 st Slide: cut and paste RECIPE OF TYPICAL DISH.( Ingredients and preparation). Add the link and a picture/s. Add other slide if needed  Find exotic fruit or fruits of the country you chose.  See sample fruit with video about Dominican Republic.  On power point do 2 nd Slide write a link about information of fruit/s of country. In a sentence give some interesting information you found (ex: how people eat it, where else does it grow or can it be found here in the USA?) or anything you learned about this fruit. ADD A PICTURE OF FRUIT/S on slide. Add other slide if needed.  EXOTIC FRUIT DRAWING: in a sheet of paper write name and draw big colorful exotic or typical fruit/s from that country.

6 What are “platos nacionales”, national dishes? They are typical dishes of a country. In Latin America, dishes may be claimed or designated as a "plato nacional" although in many cases recipes transcend national borders with only minor variations.Latin America Mrs. Billings lived in Brazil in Sao Paulo and visited Rio. I ate: Feijoada: One of the few dishes eaten the length and breadth of Brazil, feijoada is a hearty stew of black beans, sausages and cuts of pork of varying quality ……. Brazilians eat it with rice.

Brown the flank steak on each side, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer beef to a slow cooker. Cover, and cook on High for 4 hours, or on Low for up to 10 hours. When ready to serve, shred meat and serve with tortillas or rice. Ingredients: 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 2 pounds beef flank steak 1 cup beef broth 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce 1 small onion, sliced 1 green bell pepper, seeded and sliced into strips 2 cloves garlic, chopped 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon chopped fresh cilantro 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 tablespoon white vinegar

Country’s exports.  Some historical information about the country (When did it become independent? Is there anything particularly unique about the country’s history?) Today’s government, name of President.  Cultural information about the country Become a persuasive Tour Guide  Festival or holiday that is celebrated in that country Typical Food / recipe Typical music/ instruments /famous singer Typical dances / typical clothing /famous dancer  Famous cities and sites within the country  famous museums,  parks, Caves  beaches,  monuments,  ruins,  art/ or architecture  Typical animal, bird or fish of country. Exotic fruits and flower.  Famous person: athlete, team, poet, artist, singer, etc.(

11 Homework for Tuesday April 21, 2015  I HAVE A REQUEST TO ALL STUDENTS: KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE and GIE THE RESPECT MS. LUCIANO DESERVES.  We keep moving along with research. Work done in class is part of formative grade.  Some of these pages you can choose for your poster or calendar soon as you assemble your poster or calendar which will be summative for May.  Fill out outline sheets that Ms. Luciano gives you daily. Turn in class daily to her: We have done so far:  Geographical Facts Outline  a map of the country,  a flag of the country,  historical page  Coat of arms  2 Country Festivals or Celebrations SHEETS  1 colorful, big drawing of something you liked of festival  OPEN YOUR OWN POWER POINT : HAVE YOUR NAME AND NAME OF COUNTRY  RECIPE OF TYPICAL DISH of the country of your choice  EXOTIC FRUIT  DRAWING OF EXOTIC FRUIT of country of your choice.  Bring I pads, colored pencils and pens.  If you have missed out school catch up by asking Ms. Luciano what has been done the previous day.
