3 KASA (2015) Get Set Tryout activities Determine number of activities to carry out depending on: Time constraints Estimated number of players Activity sheet Use KASA’s or communicate with the other coaches and create your own Based upon: Technical Ability Physical Conditioning Awareness of the Game Every player that goes thru a station you’re at, receives a score Timing your players provides an important and unbiased rank for each player Talk to the parents Welcome and brief parents on how the tryout will be carried out Give tentative dates for results Be ready to perform the best tryout in the area Represent KASA the best you can! Be positive and use clean words 3 Kerry

4 KASA (2015) Ready - equipment and materials KASA Registration forms Liability and medical consent Non KASA players only Clipboards and pens Numbered jerseys Classic Soccer ‘What to Expect’ handout available for parents Coaches Evaluator’s score sheets Only if customized One for each coach/assessor Enough for 5 evaluators Spray paint to mark stations Only if needed for repeatability purposes Cones and flags Only if needed Available afterwards to answer quick parent questions 4 Kerry

5 KASA (2015) Ready - setup stations KASA Registration Non KASA players must fill out a Release of Liability and Consent for Medical Treatment form Assign a numbered jersey Make sure number is visible When assigning colored jerseys, randomize the colors Coaches Setup activity stations Allow 20-30 minutes to setup all stations prior to the given tryout time Know which station you are running and assign assessors their stations 5 Kerry

6 KASA (2015) Go Split into smaller groups depending on: Number of stations Number of players Coaches / Assessors available Run players through all stations In groups Individually For each activity, score each player Use a 1-5 rating scale; 5 being exceptional and 1 needing work Give some players the opportunity to repeat an activity only if you feel it will make a difference 6 Kerry

7 KASA (2015) Roles and Responsibilities After Tryouts are Over: Coaches – head and assistant Provide a copy of evaluation sheets to Classic Commissioner Enter player information and scores in ranking workbook Jorge can help with the analysis if requested Meet with Classic Commissioner to discuss player rankings and team formations 7 Kerry

8 KASA (2015) Roles and Responsibilities KASA Talk to parents about tryouts Provide equipment and materials for tryouts Support registration of players Support assignment of numbered jerseys Make sure this process is fair and unbiased Collect numbered jerseys at the end Independent assessors Support deciding on the activities to be performed Support assessing the players 8 Kerry
