ATLAS Education and Outreach Committee

ATLAS Education and Outreach Committee Date: Tuesday, 22 June 2004 Time: 6-7:30 pm (18:00-19:30) Room: Salle Bohr Discussion of Outreach budget CERN's 50th anniversary and Open House (Helfried Burckhart) ATLAS visits (tours) (Emma Sanders) ATLAS animated film - Substantial progress Revised Website - Plans for further upgrades Event display in Atlantis (Charles Timmermans) Posters now available (and a little controversy) New public brochure - now available ATLAS physics textbook (Jiri Dolejsi) Photographs of work in the cavern LHC Deck of Cards News from ESOF and EPOG (E. Johansson) New English version of Hands on CERN (E. Johansson) CDROM and DVD To be done

Detailed Outreach Budget Plan Requested - general description of the outreach activities - work plan for the next 6 years (up to end of 2010) - itemized (min 5k) budget plan. The scope/nature of items to be included in our activities. 2005: 125 kCHF 2006: 160 2007: 200 2008: 175 2009: 100 2010: 100 3D animation of the installation of ATLAS in the cavern. The spinoff brochure DVD version of the movie (in the ten languages) and animation. Part-time CERN support Peter Ginter photos?

Your Help for Outreach Budget Plan To show that the ATLAS M&O budget for outreach is only a small part of the global effort of ATLAS outreach: List all efforts & contributions made outside this budget (eg by the US, Sweden, Czech Republic, France, etc.) for ATLAS outreach. Include the manpower put into it by the community, But separate funds for: Materials, etc. Physicist manpower Non-physicists (web design, students, etc.) Please help us by sending us this information for your country (or institution).

CERN's 50th anniversary and Open House (Helfried Burckhart)

ATLAS visit itinerary (Emma Sanders) Hall 180 Hall 191 Point 1

New animated film of ATLAS for the public and students Joao Pequenao who created the “installation” movie now working at Berkeley. The public animation has three phases: Overview – Draft “completed” (Need shower info.) Particles in ATLAS – In progress Physics in ATLAS – Not started Your suggestions, criticisms, and comments on the draft work are needed.

New animated film of ATLAS for the public and students Phase 2 – components status Pixel detector - completed SCT - completed TRT – expect to have soon Liquid Argon Cal – need to get Tilecal - completed Muons – completed? Then need to show how they work (tilecal).

Upgraded Public Website ATLAS.ch

Upgraded Public Website Now the content of ATLAS.ch needs to be updated (text and graphics). Need volunteer(s).

Educational/Outreach Features of Atlantis Charles Timmermans Views of a golden SUSY event Shower development of a pion in Calorimeters Animation of a pp collision Ideas for event displays during CERN's 50th birthday
