2 Resume Content Review 1. Complete contact information 2. Clearly state objective/career summary 3. Accurately list complete work experience 4. Include all education institutions/experience 5. List all professional memberships 6. Share your volunteer experience 7. Mention all awards & recognitions 8. Feature your computer skills or foreign languages you speak

3 Resume Format Remember content needs to be specific to the job and organization!  Easy to read  Indicate month & year for dates  List work experience beginning with the most current  Use similar format for all resume sections  Left justify content, center justify name and contact information

4 Resume Preparation  The Basics Grammatically correct Brief & to the point ○ Eliminate fluff ○ 2-3 pages okay Use white paper Target your resume to the potential job Include an objective & career summary Include accomplishments that boost your image Sell your talents

5 Resume Preparation, cont. List your WCC certification and any other certifications, volunteer work, computer skills, honors, etc.  Ask someone to review your resume

8 Objective statements  Be specific  Your objective tells a recruiter / manager about your strengths, interests and what job you want

9 Sample Objective 1 Objective: To serve patients with impaired skin integrity in an acute care setting as a registered Nurse - use my Wound Care Certified WCC credential to share my knowledge and experience to make a difference in the lives of the people whom I care for

10 Sample Objective 2 Objective: To obtain a nursing position with focus on wound care - use my education and experience as a WCC wound care certified clinician to care for patients with chronic and acute impaired skin integrity-arterial, venous, diabetic, and pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, skin tears, rash and Lymphedema, among others

11 The Cover Letter  A cover letter allows you to personalize your resume  Promotes your strengths  Answers the question “Why should I hire you?”  Be concise  Use a different cover letter for each job  Make your letter visually appealing so it coordinates with your resume  Add a sentence as an attention grabber  Ask for an interview  Should not be a re-hashing of your resume

12 Resume/Interview follow-up  Make sure you follow up! Resume call to see if it arrived Email if you sent it by email US mail if you have no other resources Interview Hand written note to thank interviewer ○ send within 24 hours of interview
