2 Childhood Jefferson Davis was born on June 3,1808 in southwestern Kentucky in present day Fairview. He was 5 th of 10 sons to Samuel Davis who was a planter, horse breeder and a revolutionary war veteran. Davis’s mother Jane Cook was related to a revolutionary leader Nathaneal Greene. Davis’s first school was St.Thomas. Davis then went to Transylvania university then at 16 he went to the U.S military academy.

3 Davis’s early life Jefferson Davis fell in love with Sarah Knox she was the second daughter of colonel Zachary Taylor. Davis left the army after 7 years of service to marry Knox. 3 months after the marriage Knox caught a fever and died. In 1845 he married Varina Howell.

4 Later in his early career Davis moved to Mississippi and became a senator. Later he became secretary of war. He made many good and major improvements. Then Davis was put on senate again due to change of president.

5 Being president of the Confederacy Davis’s high standards made him an a good choice for the confederacy president. He was deeply saddened and stunned he had wanted to be a commander. On February 18,1886 Davis was inaugurated. Davis had but Lincoln had turned away. Washington D.C started sending ships in on confederate territory. Washington was warned that this will not be tolerated. They still sent ships to fort Sumpter to send supplies. Davis then ordered an attack on fort Sumpter only one person was killed. This started the Civil war. When the Civil war ended in April 3,1865 Davis was captured in May 10,1865.

6 Imprisonment and late life On December 6,1889 at 81 Davis was buried in Hollywood cemetery in Virginia. Davis was put in a cell with one barred window and he was allowed an oil lamp and he wore shackles. He later had a cell change because of health problems and his wife was allowed to live with him in his cell. Davis was never bought to trial. In December 25,1868 he was dropped of all charges. He became the president of an insurance agency he later retired. He then wrote The rise and fall of the confederacy. On December 6,1889 at 81 Davis was buried in Hollywood cemetery in Virginia.
