How safe the mode of transport is The range of services offered – air conditioning, T.V. comfortable seats The distance they have to travel and how long it would take to get there The cost of using the transport Land travel: Private vehicles – inexpensive for travelling inside RSA, ideal for caravans Rented vehicles – car rental companies Bus/coach transport – inexpensive, ideal for large tour groups, Greyhound, Translux Mini-bus taxis – ideal for day tours by small tour groups

2 2 Water travel: RSA is not a country which has rivers which can be navigated by ships. Examples of water travel - Cruise ships, small boats, ferries, hovercraft RSA Harbours: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Richards Bay Cruise liners Advantages: All shops, restaurants and entertainment in one location, very safe Disadvantages: Seasick, expensive Chartered boats Advantages: An easy and affordable way to see marine life up close Disadvantages: Can be small, use lots of fuel – negative environmental impact

3 3 Air travel: Most expensive mode of travel. Fast, more comfortable. Ideal for travelling long distances and to foreign countries Domestic Airlines: Mango, 1 Time, kulula.com, SAA International Airports: O.R. Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport, Cape Town International Airport, Kruger-Mpumalanga International Airport

4 4 Travelling by rail Metro rail and the luxury Gautrain. The Gautrain runs between O.R. Tambo Int. Airport and Sandston and Pretoria Luxury trains: The Blue Train: Travels between Pretoria and Cape Town, the Garden Route and Victoria Water falls. A special feature is the observation car with large windows and open-air balconies Shongololo Express: Travels in RSA and neighbouring countries. A special feature is the Cape Malay cuisine served on board Rovos Rail: Travels in RSA and as far as Tanzania. A special feature is the wood panelled ultra luxurious coaches Premier Classe: Travels between Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. A special feature is the coach that can be transformed into a dance floor. Luxury trains are very expensive and prices are from R11 000- R45 000 pp for a one-way ticket
