12 12 Code of Ethics (b) Continued The Code of Ethics articulates the three core values South Australian teachers highlighted as underpinning the teaching profession in South Australia: integrity, respect and responsibility. The Code is not intended as an instrument of compliance but as a framework to assist teachers to reflect on decision-making and ethical issues.

13 Australian Professional Standards for Teachers From 2103 the National Professional Standards endorsed by the Ministers for Education will be used by the Board in place of the Professional Teaching Standards for Registration in SA. 17 17 The Board is a Statutory Authority – What does this mean?

18 18 Independent Statutory Authority Independent Statutory Authority  Responsible for the registration of all teachers in South Australia  The TRB remains independent of all employers of teachers  Not affiliated with DECD, Catholic Education or Independent Schools  Important to remember when changing contact details – you must inform the Board’s office – it is not the responsibility of an employer.

20 20 Registration  Requirement to be Registered: for all who undertake employment as a teacher, principal, director at a pre-school, school or recognised kindergarten or for a fee or other consideration provide primary or secondary education or claim to be a registered teacher  Gain Entry To The Register of Teachers (Provisional Registration): must meet 4 year qualifications, professional standards, fitness and propriety & mandatory notification eligibility requirements to be registered for up to three years  Transition from Provisional to (full) Registration status ( previously - Change of Registered Status): application upon satisfactory completion of 1 year (200 full-time equivalent teaching days) in Australia or New Zealand in education setting where it is a requirement to be a registered teacher, principal or director  Satisfactory means achievement of the Australian Standards at the Proficient career stage  Continuing Registration: On application to renew teacher registration every three years, teachers must satisfy the Board that they meet professional standards and all other requirements including fitness and propriety and Mandatory Notification Training requirements.
