Romans 4 Rom 4:1 2if glory 3 righteousness Rom 4:1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Gen 15:6 4 debt5 faith is counted for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Rom 10:3 establish righteousness Ro 9:32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; Cannot do! Ro 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Cannot do!

Rom 4:6 without works7 Rom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Ps 32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Ps 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. What could King David have done to receive forgiveness for Adultery with Bathsheba and Murder of her husband Uriah? What could we do for forgiveness of our sins?

Rom 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. 16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, David Abraham Us lawgrace faith The law shows us we are sinners, grace is of God to forgive us, and faith is what imputes it to us for righteousness. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Rom 4:9 Gen 15:6 Rom 4:9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. Gen 15:6 10 10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11 father of all them that believerighteousness imputedGen 17:10 11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: Gen 17:10 Rom 4:8 Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Ro 4:12 father Abraham Ro 4:12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. Abraham; who is the father of us all Ro 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, made thee a father of many nations Ro 4:17 ¶ (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. the father of many nations Ro 4:18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

Know ye are the children of Abraham Ga 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. if ye be Christ’sAbraham’s seedheirs according to the promise Ga 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Father of believers by Faith

Rom 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all childrenIsaac 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. word of promise Sara 9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son. FAITH BELIEVING GOD’S PROMISES Rebecca 10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; By faith Isaac Heb 11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. By faith Jacob 21 By faith Jacob, FAITH-BELIEVING GOD

Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. What advantage then hath the Jew? Rom 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? ʼΙουδαῖος Ioudaios ee-oo-dah’-yos as a country from 2448 (in the sense of 2455 as a country); adj of Judea AV-Jew 193, of Judea 1, Jewess 2; 196 Jewish nation 1) Jewish, belonging to the Jewish nation birth, origin, religion 2) Jewish as respects to birth, origin, religion There is no advantage to being a Jew. 9 We be Abraham’s seed Father of the Edomites Joh 8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Father of the Edomites Joh 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Claiming to be Abraham’s seed, and even being Abraham’s seed, does not mean you are the seed of the inheritance, promises or blessings. Gen 16:15 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael. Father of the Arabs 16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram. Father of the Arabs Ga 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

Gen 25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph Abraham, Midian……Joseph taken to Egypt by his Great Uncle's family

Rom 4:13 the promisethe heir of the worldnotthrough the law through the righteousness of faith Rom 4:13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14 the promise 14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: 15 15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. If there is no transgression, then no grace If there is no transgression, then no grace. 16 the promise 16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, Abraham was before the Law. Faith came before the Law.

thepromise What was the best promise made to Abraham? Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. the promises thy seed, which is Christ Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Ge 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. my day Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

17 calleth those things which be not as though they were. 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who am I? But God calls me as though I were! 18 according to that which was spoken 18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. Christ the seed of promise.

Ex 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. To the children of Abraham by Faith, you and I, the Promises are made. yea royal priesthoodholy nation 1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

19 about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: 20through unbelief 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Gen 15:6 What follows this verse in Genesis? Have you ever wavered on verse 21?

Eliezer Gen 15:2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? 3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? 4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. 6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. 8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

Hagar Gen 16:1 Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. Abraham knew God was able, but he listened to his wife.

Abraham laughed at the promise of God. Gen 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. 16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. 17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? 18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! First it was Eliezer of Damascus, Gen 14:2, now it is Ishmael. Trying to work things out for God. The way God built this new building is not the way I would have done it. I never doubted it. But my way was different than God’s way. Don’t go ahead, and don’t get behind!

Sarah Gen 18:9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Sarah laughed 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not 15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

Abraham Gen 20:10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? they will slay me 11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake. 12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. Excuse for weak faith! What is your excuse?

In spite of all this what does God remember? By faith Abraham obeyed Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith the same promise 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. faith also Sara she judged him faithful who had promised 11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

died in faith 13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. God is not ashamed to be called their God 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

23 23 ¶ Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24But for us if we believe 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. (The Gospel) Rom 5:1justified by faithwe have Rom 5:1 ¶ Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2we have access by faith 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
