EQUIPMENT Pickleball Paddle & Ball Head Handle Ball

Pickleball Court

Game Play To begin the game: – Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who serves fisrt REMEMBER: Pickleball is a game of shot placement and patience, not brute power or strength. Serving: – We will play doubles – The person on the right side of the court begins with a serve. They must serve it diagnol. – Players must keep one foot behind the back line when serving – The serve must be underhand!!!

Game Play… Serving continued: – Extremely important serving rules Double Bounce Rule: Each team must play their first shot off the bounce. Example- the first receiving team must let the served ball bounce, and the serving team must let the return of serve bounce before playing it. After the two bounces have occurred, the ball can be either volleyed or played off the bounce. Terminology – Volley= To volley a ball means to hit it in the air without letting it bounce. All volleying must be done with the player's feet behind the non-volley zone line. – Let= the ball touches the net on the serve, and lands on the proper service court. In this situation, replay the serve. Each team gets 1 replay.

Game Play Serving continued: – If the 1 st serve is not successful, this is called a “fault” – OTHER FAULTS (not related to the serve): Hitting the ball out of bounds Not clearing the net Stepping into the non-volley zone and volleying the ball

Game Play… Faults – The 1st serving team (rock, paper, scissors winner) is allowed only one fault before giving up the ball to the opponents. – Afterwards, both members of each team will serve and fault before the ball is turned over to the opposing team.

Game Play… Games played to 11 points (or 6-8 minute rotations) Must win by 2 Only the serving team can score a point Types of hits: – Smash: slamming the ball with force towards the ground while it is airborne, for a guaranteed point (must be behind the volley line). – Dink: a soft shot that lands very close to the net, especially when the defense is back.
