2 Course Specification 1-Course Data:
Title: Introduction to oceanography Code Ms 101 Academic Year: level 1 Instructional units: 2 credit hrs.

3 2- Course Aim The course aim:
To familiarize the students with the meaning of the interdisplinary understanding of the Term Oceanography and its aspects and introducing him/her to Oceanography.

4 3- Intended learning outcome ILOs
a: Knowledge and understanding At the end of this course the student will be able to: 1- Define the components of Oceanography 2- Explain and define early history and modern exploration. 3- Identify the physical properties of sea water, ocean circulation; waves and tides. 4- Know the chemical composition of sea water. 5- Be familiar with the ecological factors in the marine environment, biozones, plankton, nekton and benthos. 6- Identify marine sediments and coastal sedimentary environments. 7- Distinguish between plankton, benthos and nekton.

5 b: Intellectual skills
At the end of this course the students will be able to: b1: Differentiate between different aspects of Oceanography. b2 : Recognize the major biological contents of the different biozones. b3: Analyze scientific material both orally and in writing in a scholarly manner. b4: Demonstrate and use the essential facts and concepts.

6 C: Professional skills
At the end of this course students will be able to: c1: Prepare suitable literatures to find information on a specific topic. c2: Compare among different aspects of Oceanography c3. Infer collected materials related to those aspects.

7 D: General skills At the end of this course students will be able to:
d1: Communicate with others positively. d2: Work in group.
