2 INTRODUCTION EXPECTATIONS INSTRUCTIONS The Basics of Employment Background Checks An employer must ask permission to conduct a background check on a release form separate from the application. Once consent is given, employers have broad spectrum of services to choose from to inquire into their applicant’s background. Areas of inquiry can include: National, Statewide, and County Criminal Records Registered Sex Offender Lists Incarceration Records Motor Vehicle Records Employment Credit Reports Social Security Number Education records Federal Criminal and Civil records Character references State licensing records Drug tests Current and Past employer reference Personal references OFAC – Terrorist watch list You will understand how to create a profile for a new job applicant, and how to select and order the desired background screening services you want performed before the person is hired. We have prepared an eLearning program that will explain each element of creating a draft profile in preparation for ordering background screening services.. We use a short video to present the important information we need you to understand. During the video there will be questions to answer so we encourage you to print out this workbook prior to watching the video. IMPORTANT: This training book contains the same information as the video and you SHOULD use it to help answer the questions. As you answer each question you will receive immediate feedback whether your answer is correct or not. Refer to the training book if your answer is incorrect to find the correct response.

4 To Do’s : 1.Your HOME Page includes a “Create Profile” section with boxes for you to input the initial basic details for the individual you want to screen. 2.The “Customer” box will be your company or could be a division/client of your company you are running the investigation for. 3. The Service box is where you select the screening service or services you choose to order for the individual. Note: The menu should include the services options preselected by your organization. 1.The remaining boxes are for the required information about the individual needed to create a draft of the order. Issues- Do’s & Don’ts: 1. Prior to clicking on the “Create Draft” button at the bottom be sure to double check your information for correct spellings etc. All details need to be accurate. Step # 1 Your Home page (Your page appearance could be different depending on your organization’s design preferences.)

5 To Do’s : 1.By clicking on the Draft Profile button, this screen will appear complete with the information you have input so far. 2.Usually you will have more information to add such as an address 3.Click on the icon in the top right hand corner to open the edit screen. 6 To Do’s : 1. Input the added information in the designated fields. Issues- Do’s & Don’ts: 1.Prior to clicking on the “Update” button at the bottom be sure to double check your information for correct spellings etc. All details need to be accurate. 7 To Do’s : 1.After updating your screen with an address etc. you have a new “Draft” screen where you can add new added information such as more names or additional addresses. You can also revise your original information if necessary. 2.Click on the icons on the right side of each section to make changes. 3.When you have entered new name or new address information, you need to click on the “Insert” button at the right side of the section to save the new data. 8 To Do’s : 1.The Draft profile will list all preselected orders and provide the list of available services to order. 2.You can add more orders by placing a “check mark” next to the Available Service and selecting the ‘Add Service’ button. 3.When you have added and/or revised all the information you have about the individual, be sure to double check your information for correct spellings etc. All details need to be accurate. 4.Now you have some choices:  “Close Profile” that will allow you to return to it later for possible additional revisions  Or, if you know you are finished and want to start the screening process on the individual, you must “Transmit” your request.  If the individual is no longer a candidate for the job and there is no longer need to perform any background screenings, you can “Delete” the request. Issues- Do’s & Don’ts: Step # 4 Ordering and Transmitting Services  A Red Dot denotes – service is added, but no orders have been added for service. To add an order for the desired service, select the Paper Icon and proceed with the service required information for that service. A Green Dot indicates that the order is ready for transmitting. The user is able to delete any preselect orders by click on the trash can icon.

9 To Do’s : 1.If you have already received the completed report email and need to review the report again, log into your site and go to the “View” drop down menu and select “All Completed Profiles”. Issues- Do’s & Don’ts: 1. You can also use the Search menu at the top of Your HOME screen to search for completed reports. Step # 5 Revisiting Completed Profiles
