www.snk.fi NUOTTA TRAINING  The youth work unit at the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland made a decision in year 2010 to launch new forms of social youth work activities. This work is accomplished via the national youth centres.  There are ten National Youth centres in different parts of Finland. In nine of them there are social youth work coordinators.

www.snk.fi  Social youth works target group is 13 to 28 years. Main goal is to support youngsters in their daily life, so if they have any problems at school, free time or social skills and they don’t know what to do in their future they can participate our training programs called “Nuotta” which is Finnish and means a fishing equipment dragnet.  Usually youngsters who are taking part to the “Nuotta” training have some problems with their self-esteem, alcohol, school or home, or they are depressed and seeking themselves.  There are nine different kinds of centres and also coordinators so all the training programs are different and closely attached to the leaders’ education. Some of the coordinators have social education and some are youth workers.

www.snk.fi  Training programs are planned in close co-operation with authority, social workers, schools and outreach youth workers (they are searching youngsters from their homes or streets).  There are day programs for the youngsters near the centres and longer programs that include one or several 2-5 day programs in the centre or in the nature. The sessions can be done three times.  Youngsters are coming to the centre alone or in a group. Example group can be from a workshop for unemployed youngsters, in which case their leaders can also participate.

www.snk.fi  Training programs are supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland so there are no costs for the youngster.  In the “Nuotta” training youngsters are living together and learning everyday skills like planning, buying and cooking the food, daily rhythm. Program also includes group games, interviews, planning the future and activities that support life control and healthy lifestyle. It can also include activities that group choose by itself.  Main goal of “Nuotta” training is to find youngsters in threat of marginalisation and help them to find their way back to education or work by developing their communication skills, self-esteem, independency and control over each ones lives.

www.snk.fi Nuotta goes international  2012- 2013 International Nuotta training course, seminar, youth exchanges  European Voluntary Service programme  Youth are sent abroad to do voluntary work with their support persons  Youth exchanges
