King Charles II took control of New Netherlands (Early Name) gave colony to Duke of York (Brother), afraid of war with England he gave up New Amsterdam in honor was renamed New York

Not dominated by a specific religion which gave way for religious freedom
Settlers who didn’t agree with the same religion were able to build their own town north of New York City

5. Geography Climate Mountains in the Northeast
Lowlands along Canadian border
Fertile soil suited for farming
A mild climate with warm summers and mild winters

Good farmland, timber, furs, coal, and iron ore (important resource)
Exported agriculture products and natural resources
Able to manufacture iron ore products (plows, tools, kettles, locks, nails, and large blocks of iron) exported them to England
