2 Wall Street Journal Reflection The article that went along with this vignette spoke about the importance of writing by hand. Today, a lot of writing has been moved to technology such as computers and texting instead of on paper which is only harming the youth that do not get as much practice with hand writing. Typing may seem easier and more effective for the future because technology is becoming more advanced and popular, however; this article spoke about how harmful this really is. People performed studies that tested youth who practiced hand writing and those who do not to see who seemed to have more neural brain activity with an MRI test. The results show that the group who actually performed hand writing had enhanced neural brain activity than those who did not. Overall, this article speaks about how important hand writing is for the brain.

3 Personal Experience with Hand Writing The picture to the left is a worksheet that I received every week in Kindergarten. The purpose was to teach me how to write a specific letter. These worksheets required me to trace the capital and lower-case version of a letter then it allowed me to write the capital and lower-case version of the letter by myself. These worksheets were very helpful and a major factor that taught me how to write by hand.

5 Typing Typing is also an important skill to have because the world today is very technologically advanced. A lot of classes have moved from paper work to online work along with college applications and applications for work. Typing is beneficial because you do not have to physically take the time to write out every letter; instead all you have to do is press one button and the whole letter appears on the screen. Typing is simply faster, easier, and neater than writing something by hand.

6 Hand Writing VS. Typing In my opinion hand writing is a skill that everyone needs. There are still times when we will need to use it such as some test and letters. Hand writing is something that enhances the brain based off of the article that was attached with this vignette and this is something that I completely agree with! I have done a “study” of my own just based off of myself. The study was to take notes in class one day on my computer and the next day take notes in the same class by hand writing them. The notes I took when writing by hand stuck with me more than the notes I typed. Typing is something that is becoming more popular and I am not saying that typing is not an important skill to have, I just strongly agree that writing something by hand is far more beneficial and a skill that should not be lost.
