We can use the –ing form of the verb as a noun. It can be the subject of the sentence:
One function of an operating system is to manage the computer’s resources
Managing the computer’s resources is one function of the operating system
The main aim of our company is to provide reliable services
Providing reliable services is the main aim of our company

3. The –ing form is also used after prepositions
The –ing form is also used after prepositions. This includes some expressions with ‘to’:
