Reproduction Which topics will we cover? How is a new life made? Reproductive organs Fertilisation Pregnancy Puberty Menstrual cycle

Today we will learn about the female reproductive system

Reproduction Which topics will we cover? We are learning to: Recognise how humans reproduce and identify the female sex cell and parts of the female reproductive organs.

Reproduction Which topics will we cover? What I am looking for: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function

The female reproductive organ Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum What do we know? Can you identify anything on the diagram?

The female reproductive organ Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum

The female reproductive organ Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum Label the diagram of the reproductive organs

What does each part do? Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum

The female reproductive system Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function PartFunction Ovary Fallopian Tube Womb/ Uterus Cervix Vagina

What does each part do? Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum Write down the function of each part on your diagram. Use the descriptions on the board to help you. These release the egg cells This is the tube that the egg travels down to get to the womb. Fertilisation usually happens here. This is were the fertilised egg would implant and develop into a foetus. This holds the foetus in place if the egg has been fertilised. It is a muscle that closes the top of the vagina. This is a muscular tube that opens to the outside of the body.

What is an ovum? Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum Female egg cell What do you think this contains?

What is an ovum? Outcomes: Use key words to label the female reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the female reproductive system Explain how the female egg cell is adapted for its function Keywords Ovary Fallopian tube Womb/Uterus Vagina Cervix Egg cell/Ovum The egg is designed to allow semen to enter the outer shell to attach to the chromosomes. This is when it is determined whether the baby is a boy or a girl.

Today we will also learn about the male reproductive system

Reproduction Which topics will we cover? We are learning to: Recognise how humans reproduce and identify the male sex cell and parts of the male reproductive organs.

Reproduction Which topics will we cover? What I am looking for: Use key words to label the male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the male reproductive system Explain how the sperm cell is adapted for its function

The male reproductive system Outcomes: Use key words to label the Male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the Male reproductive system Explain how the Sperm is adapted for its function Keywords Sperm Urethra Penis Scrotum Testicle Gland Foreskin Sperm duct What do we know? Can you identify anything on the diagram?

The male reproductive system Outcomes: Use key words to label the Male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the Male reproductive system Explain how the Sperm is adapted for its function Keywords Sperm Urethra Penis Scrotum Testicle Gland Foreskin Sperm duct

The male reproductive system

Outcomes: Use key words to label the Male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the Male reproductive system Explain how the Sperm is adapted for its function Keywords Sperm Urethra Penis Scrotum Testicle Gland Foreskin Sperm duct Label the diagram

The male reproductive system Outcomes: Use key words to label the male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the male reproductive system Explain how the sperm cell is adapted for its function PartFunction Penis Urethra Sperm duct Testicles Gland Foreskin

What does each part do? Write down the function of each part on your diagram. Use the descriptions on the board to help you. These secrete a liquid to add to the sperm. The sperm and liquid together is called semen. This skin surrounds the testicles. This joins to the sperm duct. Semen and urine leave the penis through this. The sperm is produce here. The sperm travels up this tube from the testicles. Outcomes: Use key words to label the Male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the Male reproductive system Explain how the Sperm is adapted for its function Keywords Sperm Urethra Penis Scrotum Testicle Gland Foreskin Sperm duct

The Sperm cell Outcomes: Use key words to label the Male reproductive system Describe the function of each part of the Male reproductive system Explain how the Sperm is adapted for its function Keywords Sperm Urethra Penis Scrotum Testicle Gland Foreskin Sperm duct Taill Why does it have a tail?

Written Task Use the key words to write a story of the journey you would take if you were a sperm cell starting in the testicles and travelling to find the egg cell.

Group Activity Outcomes: Identify the main changes in males and females during puberty Explain why teenagers can sometime suffer from acne and mood swings Keywords Puberty Hormones Oestrogen Testosterone Each person is given a card. Stand in the correct order starting with ‘An egg cell is released from the ovaries.’
