13 What’s New with Senior Nutrition Program?
Senior Nutrition Program partners with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide free access to food for the nutrition sites Santa Clara County Nutrition Standards 2012

14 Partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank
Nutrition sites have been utilizing resources from the Food Bank. Since January 2012, more fresh produce are offered for use at some nutrition sites. Some sites (in Downtown San Jose) have access to fresh produce and dry/frozen foods delivered and pick-up at Salvation Army (San Jose). This process results in great monetary savings for the sites—approximately $77,000 from January-June 2012. Seniors benefit by the offering of fresh fruits and vegetables with the occasional nutritional supplements.

15 Santa Clara County Nutrition Standards 2012
New county policy initiated on July 1, 2012. Goal is to provide healthier food and beverages in Santa Clara County. To ensure that food and beverages offered, purchased, or served at County facilities and provided by County departments are of maximum nutritional value. To improve the health of seniors in this program, this policy restricts intake of fats, sugar and sodium.
