2. What can technology do for you? Notes - adding your organisation’s logo You can customise this presentation by replacing the Age UK Anytown logo with your organisations logo. 1.Go to the ‘View’ tab on the tool bar and click on ‘Slide Master’ in the ‘Master Views’ group. Now go to the ‘View’ tab again and unclick ‘Slide Master’. 2.Go to slide one, delete the Age UK Anytown logo and insert your organisations in its place. Make sure you crop the image to the same size otherwise it will block text on the slides. Any changes you make on slide one will be applied to all slides. 3.Close Master view. 4. What can technology do for you? Social networks From the other side of the world to just around the corner, the internet keeps you in touch with family and friends. Watch family and friends open their Christmas presents from the other side of the world with FREE video calls through the internet. Try Skype or Google video chat. Over 32.7% per cent of the world population are now online. (Internet World Stats, December 2011) You can ‘meet’ new people online from all over the world with similar hobbies and interests, through chat or community interest sites.

5. What can technology do for you? Social networks You can look for and get in touch with old school or work friends. Or try online dating. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr allow you to share with friends and family what’s happening in your life and get updates on theirs. Share your special memories by sending and receiving digital photos instantly via email.

6. What can technology do for you? Information From tending the flowers to researching the family tree, the internet is the world’s biggest encyclopaedia, at your fingertips. From sharing your recipe for the best-ever chocolate cake to debating local politics, the internet is a great place to share experience and exchange ideas.

7. What can technology do for you? From the weekly shop to a weekend away, with the internet you never need face the high-street crowds again. The internet is the world’s biggest shopping centre and it’s right on your doorstep. Find and compare holidays, appliances, cars, gifts, plumbers – anything! Order your supermarket shopping online and have it delivered straight to your kitchen. Turn your unwanted possessions into cash using auction sites like eBay. Shopping

8. What can technology do for you? Save money Use the internet to bank online to keep account of your money and savings any time, day or night. Access online public service information about benefits and financial products. Pay your council tax and utility bills online. Get advice and compare prices on products and services.

9. What can technology do for you? Entertainment The internet offers a world of entertainment. Play games like chess, backgammon, bridge, poker and Scrabble against friends online. Download TV or radio programmes that you have missed. Read your favourite newspapers and magazines on the internet. Listen to music online and shop for your favourite tunes. Play a game of tennis without leaving the house, on a motion-activated gaming device.

10. What can technology do for you? Getting your voice heard From reviewing your favourite film to starting a local petition, the internet is a great way of getting your voice heard and bringing people together to make things happen.

11. What can technology do for you? Digital cameras Take as many photos as you like and never run out of film again! Digital cameras store your pictures onto a memory card for quick and easy transfer to your computer for safekeeping, editing or sharing. You can view and delete photos on your camera to ensure that you get that perfect shot. Storing images electronically means they will never fade or get damaged.

12. What can technology do for you? Mobile phones – making everyday life that much easier Running late? Flat tyre? Forgot the milk? Having a phone in your pocket can be a life-saver and can put you in touch instantly. Mobiles allow you to cheaply send and receive short text messages. Most standard mobiles have alarms, calculators and calendars and many new models have inbuilt cameras, allow you to access the internet and store music to listen to on the go.

15. What can technology do for you? Final word ‘I go to a “silver surfers club” most weeks to practise emailing and searching websites, with help on hand if I get stuck. The more I go, the more confident I feel.
