9 9 With the use of current technology and social media, one can now volunteer through social media just about anywhere. You can send a text message to donate money to a relief fund while standing at the bus stop You can post on twitter during class. You can send your a facebook invite to an organizations event while on your break at work. One can literally use social media at any time of day. Its as simple as having the tools necessary to do so (cell phone, camera, iPod touch, playbook- anything with access to these sites and the internet.) Volunteerism in Social Media Where?

10 10 Koodonation is an online hub that connects volunteers with non-profits through microvolunteering. Koodonation makes it easy and convenient for busy people to lend their skills to non-profit organization though the use of technology. It is a bite-sized, crowd sourced, network managed community whom all wish to be microvolunteers.

11 11 Why? User-Friendly Volunteer Friendly Media Friendly Today most people use search engines and social networks to research product and service information. People will spend as much time volunteering as they would on facebook. Recruit specific demographic groups (see slide on who).

LinkedIn is for those who look to present their opportunities more professionally. Include phone numbers and email addresses for those who are interested in volunteering to contact. Join the social media bandwagon and your organizations possibilities will be enormous – a text message away.

Sam, a follower, reads John’s tweet about the volunteer experience John read from the text message Kassi sent after talking to Meghan and writes a facebook status about the experience. Meghan sees the facebook status Sam wrote and creates a facebook group about a volunteer experience. Meghan, Kassi, John, Sam, facebook friends, and twitter followers all go and volunteer at the Cambridge food bank and then post pictures on facebook.
