3 The oldest children’s choice award in North America Started in 1940 by Harry Hartman, a publisher in Seattle Alaska, Washington, Montana, Idaho, British Columbia and Alberta Divided into three sections: Junior (Gr. 4-6) Intermediate (Gr. 7-9) Senior (Gr. 10-12) Young Reader’s Choice Award

4 How are books nominated? Students, teachers, parents, and librarians can nominate titles for YRCA but only kids decide what titles are on the short list and the winners! Nominated titles must have been published 3 years before the award year The nominees list are published in March and voting begins the following April

5 Picked it. Read it. Loved it. Where do I vote?

6 Voting You need to read or listen to at least two titles in a division to vote in that division. Use your trading cards to remember your favourite books! Submit your votes online in April at your school or at your public library branch. You could win a Skype visit from a nominated author!

7 Library staff will be visiting in March to remind schools about voting, trading cards and all the great resources at the library! We’ll be back!
