3. CAREER A person’s lifework A profession that a person works at for a long time

4. ENTRY LEVEL JOB A beginning job. Usually one of the lowest paying.

5. ENTREPRENEURSHIP Starting your own business.

6. RESPONSIBILITY Understanding what is expected of you and doing it!

7. INTEREST What you like to do.

8. ABILITY What you can do.

9. A learned ability- such as keyboarding, carpentry, sewing... SKILL

10. TRANSFERABLE SKILLS Skills that can be used in more than one job.

11. WORK ENVIRONMENT Your work surroundings. Indoors or out, quiet or noisy, comfortable...

12. JOB SATISFACTION Liking your job or what you do for a living.

13. CAREER CLUSTER A group of careers with something in common EX: Artistic Cluster- dance, photography, cartoonist, painter

14. On The Job Training Training received while you are actually doing the job.

15. INTERN An advanced student in a professional field Is supervised while doing the work Usually little or no pay Ex: teaching or medicine

16. APPRENTICE An inexperienced person who is learning a trade or skill by working with a skilled worker.

17. Vocational School Training for a skill (3 weeks- 1 ½years) Ex: construction worker, plumber, mechanic, cosmetologist

18. Technical School Training in skills related to the methods of using, installing or repairing of tools or machinery Ex: computer technician, sound technician

19. Associate’s Degree 2 years This is a degree earned from a 2 year college Ex: OCC

20. Bachelor’s Degree 4 years This is a degree earned at a 4 year college Ex: Syracuse University You do NOT need an associate’s degree to earn a bachelor’s degree

21. Graduate Degree This is a degree earned beyond a bachelor’s Ex: Master’s, Doctoral, Medical Doctor You need your Bachelor’s degree before you can earn a Graduate degree

23. JOB A piece of work to be done, a place of employment that a person takes to earn money, but does not plan on doing that work for a long period of time.

24. VALUES Things that are important to you, the way you judge right from wrong (ex. Money, things, truthfulness, respect…)

25. GOALS What you are working toward, what you hope to accomplish, the things that give direction to your life.

26. REFERENCE A person who gives information about your personal and work habits.

27. BIBLIOGRAPHY A list of sources that you have used to get information for writing a paper (includes books, magazines, & computer programs.)

28. RESUME A written record of what you have studied and work experience you have had.

29. TENTATIVE CAREER PLANS Temporary plans, they can be changed.

30. TURNOVER RATE How often people change jobs.

31. PERSONAL INTERRELATIONSHIPS Getting along with the people you work with, fellow employees, customers, clients, etc.

32. TANGIBLE Real, measurable- things such as money, clothing, homes, health insurance...

33. INTANGIBLE Can’t be measured or touched- things such as feelings, a sense of pride.
