Notifications Norms were notified under –Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 –The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 –Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 Emission norms were first notified in 1991 –New vehicles –In-use vehicles Emission norms were revised in 1996 Auto Fuel Policy Committee set up in 2001 –Auto Fuel roadmap in August 2002 Bharat Stage I (Euro I equivalent) were introduced from April 2000 in Delhi and subsequently to other 3 metro cities Bharat Stage II in Delhi from later half of 2000 extended to other 3 metro cities in 2001
