2 Initially voluntary, applicable to construction sector as well as construction activity in other workplaces Expected to become mandatory by the summer of 2014 and later expand to all sectors Training to include: Inspection of equipment for damage Procedures for setting up, relocating or removing protective equipment such as guardrails Hands-on training on fall-arrest equipment and other devices Workers rights New Safety Training Standard for Working at Heights 2

3 The strategy includes actions for: New resources to support small businesses All workers, especially those most at risk receive the help they need Effective and efficient delivery of health and safety services Raise awareness among Ontarians about ways to stay safe and healthy at work Compliance with workplace health and safety regulations Ontario’s First Integrated Health and Safety Strategy 3

4 The panel has representation from a diverse group of members from business, worker, labour, and youth representatives The advisory panel is examining current approach to setting the minimum wage and provide advice on how the province should determine changes to the minimum wage in the future Minimum Wage Advisory Panel 4

5 Focus on: Protection from airborne substances, hazardous materials and extreme noise levels Worker protection when equipment and hazardous materials are stored and moved Availability of personal protective equipment and appropriate training Emergency contingency plans in place, communicated to workers and others at the workplace Winter Safety Blitz on Construction Sites 5

7 May 1 to August 31, 2013, MOL inspectors conducted an enforcement blitz in the industrial and health care sectors focusing on: New and young workers aged 14 to 24 years New workers aged 25 and older who were on the job for less than six months or reassigned to a new job New and Young Workers Blitz 2013 7
