2 Acrostic Poem A poem or series of lines in which certain letters, usually the first in each line, form a name, motto, or message when read in sequence.

6 Diamante Poems The Rules of a Diamante
There are just a few rules to writing a diamante: Diamantes are seven lines long. The first and last lines have just one word. They are either synonyms or antonyms of one another. The second and sixth lines have two words. The third and fifth lines have three words. And the fourth line has four words. Lines 1, 4, and 7 have nouns. Lines 2 and 6 have adjectives. Lines 3 and 5 have verbs.

8 Foot The combination of stressed and unstressed syllables, which make up the metric unit of a line. The First Line = 5 Feet The Second Line= 5 Feet

9 Haiku A Japanese poem composed of three unrhymed lines of five, seven and five syllables. Haiku reflects on some aspect of nature.

10 Limerick Poem A humorous, rhyming, five-line poem with a specific meter and rhyme scheme. Most follow the rhyme scheme aabba.

12 Lyric Poem A short poem that directly expresses the poet’s thoughts and emotions in a musical way.

13 Meter The pattern of syllables in a line of poetry.

14 Narrative Poem A story told in verse. Narrative poems often have all of the elements of short stories, including characters, conflict and plot.

15 Refrain A repeated line or number of lines in a poem or song, typically at the end of each verse.

16 Rhyme Repetition of similar sounds.

17 Rhyme Scheme A repeated regular pattern of rhymes usually found at the ends of lines in a poem.
