2 First, a review…..the 7 major drawing types.
Foundation Plans Floor Plans Elevations Electrical Plans Construction Details Pictorial Presentations Site Plan

3 ___________Plan A foundation plan specifies the size and material of a foundation. Information about waterproofing, excavation, and supporting structures is given on the plan.

4 ______ Plan Floor plans show exterior and interior features such as walls, doors, windows, patios, decks, fireplaces, etc. Each floor of a house is drawn on a separate plan.

5 _______ Exterior elevations are orthographic projections of the outside of a building. Windows, doors, rooflines, steps, and chimneys are shown. Architects and designers also prepare interior elevations that show the finish details in various rooms.

6 _______ Plan An electrical plan is drawn to show where switches, outlets, panel boxes, and television jacks are located. This plan is drawn from the floor plan.

7 ___________ Details Construction details are drawn if more information is needed to describe a construction. They include kitchens, stairs, chimneys, fireplaces, windows, doors, etc.

How the finished house will appear is shown on a pictorial presentation. Usually two-point perspective is used.

9 _____ Plan The location of the house is shown on a plot plan or site plan. Topography, dimensions, utilities, and other buildings are usually included as well.

There are many elements found in the typical site plan. You must have a site plan as part of applying for a building permit. Each county or municipality has an office that is responsible for making sure that all new structures follow the latest version of the International Residential Code (IRC).

Property lines are designated by surveyor’s bearings in degrees, minutes, and seconds.

Contour lines show the path water will take as it runs off the street, yard, _________, roof, etc.

16 Site plans: Show the best location to put a house and also indicate what type of ___________ is possible. Crawlspace or slab – can be constructed on any lot Basement – requires a sloped lot. Actual slope of lot dictates where the exterior doors/windows are located.
