2 2 >Accounts for almost 80% of all vehicle crashes in the United States (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) >A Survey of 1,200 driving Americans found that: 83% believe they are safe drivers. 59% don’t consider themselves as distracted drivers. 73% talk on cell phones while driving. 16% drive below the speed limit. 48% admit they have driven a certain distance without recalling it. >The truth is that driving is the single most dangerous thing most of us will do on any given day. 3 3 Why all the attention now?  Explosion in cell phone use.  New technologies (navigation systems, traveler information systems, etc.)  Greater complexity of “old” technologies (radios, sound systems, vehicle displays, etc).  People spending more time in cars. Cell Phone usage in the US has increased from 34 million to 203 million in the last ten years.

6 6 Distractions you cannot control. >Other Drivers. Pressuring you to drive faster by tailgating aggressive driving or weaving through traffic. Avoiding obstacles in their path (swerving into your lane). >Emergency Vehicles. Fire, Police & Ambulance (flashing lights & sirens). >The Unexpected. Animals & Wildlife.
