Judo is a modern competitive martial art, combat, and Olympic sport. Judo is all about the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage, and movement in the form of throws and other skills.

The object of judo is to either throw or takedown an opponent, immobilize or subdue them, or force them to submit. You cant strike the opponent with hands or feet unless in pre arranged forms.

Judo was created in japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. It is a gendai budō 現代ぶどお (modern martial art), and it is in the Olympics.

Sumo is a competitive full contact wrestling sport with two wrestlers (or rikishi 力士 ). It is preformed on a pad of clay with a layer of sand. It originated from Japan and this is the only place where it is practiced professionally.

In Sumo, the wrestler (or rikishi 力士 ) tries to force the other wrestler out of a ring (or dohyō 土俵) or to touch the ground with anything other than the soles of their feet.

Sumo is considered a gendai budō 現代ぶどお (modern martial art) but its history has been around for many centuries. It was used as a trial of strength in battle, and was associated with the Shinto Religion as a ritual.

Yes, Sumo was a ritual for the Shinto Religion, in certain shrines it was even a form of ritual dance where a human wrestled with a Kami 神(かみ or a Shinto Divine Spirit). This was an important ritual at the Imperial Court.

Sumo has many ancient traditions, including salt Purification from when Sumo was used in Shinto. They also stomp on the mat to scare away demons.
