On April 5, 1954, Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield announced the first U.S. Postage Stamp to carry the inscription, “In God We Trust.”

9 July 30, 1956 President Eisenhower approved Congress’ resolution making “In God We Trust” the national motto.
