4 Sustainable Technology Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers  At the core is “entrepreneurship”:  What is entrepreneurship?  Who is an entrepreneur?  When is entrepreneurship (private sector action) to be preferred to government policy or charity (public sector action)?  The role of the Land Grant university (i.e. where we all sit and work) in stimulating entrepreneurship.

5 Sustainable Technology Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers  Refining the focus to “technology entrepreneurship”.  Why this focus on technology?  What is technology?  How is it different than a transactional, financial, or service entrepreneurship?  scalability and impact.  productivity,  efficiency,  appropriateness,  design.

6 Sustainable Technology Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers  We further focus on “sustainable”.  What is sustainability?  Why is it an important guiding principle for new enterprise?  Two dimensions of interest:  poverty (“BOP” or “Base of the Pyramid”) and  environment. See article by Nidumolu, Prahalad, and Rangaswami “Why Sustainability Is Now the Key Driver of Innovation”.
