1 Why study Art History & Visual Culture at Exeter? -Unique combination of art history and visual culture -Extensive range of modules taught by experts in the field -Student-centred learning, and wide variety of techniques and approaches to learning -Emphasis on direct engagement with works of art and visual culture, including opportunities for study ‘in the field’ at galleries and museums -Study abroad opportunities -Work placement possibilities -Our teaching staff includes academics with extensive curatorial experience – locally, nationally and abroad (We have excellent relations with colleagues in national museums, including Tate, the National Gallery, the British Museum, in regional art galleries, such as Tate St Ives and Arnolfini, and in Exeter with Spacex, The Phoenix and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) -Exciting career opportunities

2 Art History The study of works of art: their production and reception, the museums and other institutions that support them, their role in society, the meanings and values they carry, from the Renaissance to contemporary art Visual Culture The study of visual media in different cultural contexts: the role played by visual objects and visually-orientated activities, from elite to popular culture and from antiquity to today’s media-saturated world What will you study?

3 How your degree is structured The degree is divided into core and optional modules, giving you the flexibility to structure your studies according to your interests. Individual modules are worth 15 or 30 credits each, and full-time undergraduates will take 120 credits in each year. Within Art History and Visual Culture, in addition to core modules, you can choose from a variety of optional modules.
