4 The School of History, Classics and Archaeology  In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, the School achieved third place in the UK (first place in Scotland) for the quality and volume of research in History and Classics  85 core academic staff members spread over three disciplines; its ca. 60 historians are one of the largest such groupings in UK  1500 undergraduate students, 250 graduate students – 600 of those from outside of the UK  Attractive new facilities, including work space for undergraduates
