ENTR G3 ENTR F3 Legal Framework – Waste – Examples of Specific actions Collection rates and quality of collected materials Help better implement EU Waste Framework Directive with regard to: –"Obligation" to collect paper, metals, plastics and glass separately by 2015, to improve quality and quantity of recycled materials –Minimum re-use and recycling of overall 50% by weight by 2020 Identify existing waste collection systems and good practices Waste Shipment Inspections Prevent illegal shipments of waste from EU to non-EU countries by: –Facilitating targeted control of high risk shipments at EU ports, by: »a risk approach, based on type, origin, destination of material »second-hand goods in customs codes –Better collaboration and sharing of information between EU ports Certification for end-processing/recycling facilities EU legislation establishes framework Specific requirements developed in applications-specific standards Inspection and certification by independent certifiers accredited by EU authorities Priority Area: Improving Europe's waste management regulatory framework conditions and excellence (WP4)

ENTR G3 ENTR F3 Standardisation – Example of Specific actions European standards for treatment of WEEE Enhance WEEE standards under preparation by CENELEC and cover end- processing of WEEE fractions for recovery of high value/critical raw materials: –Research existence critical raw materials in specific types of WEEE –Draft set of requirements and lodge with CENELEC New Business Models – Example of Specific actions Infrastructure for end-of-life consumer products Action to address failure of current collection systems for certain end-of-life products, containing technology/critical metals Gather information and benchmark existing systems (e.g. deposit systems, leasing models) Pilot business models and infrastructures, then extend them to more products/regions Priority Area: Improving Europe's waste management regulatory framework conditions and excellence (WP4)
