2 Comparatives Adjectives We use them to compare two people, things or places. Ex: Mexico City is bigger than Chitre.

3 Comparative forms of Adjectives Add –er to one syllable adjectives. If the adjectives ends in –e, add –r. Cheap—cheaper loose---looser If an adjective ends cvc, double the consonant before adding –er Hot—hotter

4 For most adjectives that end in –y, change the y-i and add –er Pretty --- prettier busy---busier To make the comparative form of most adjectives of two or more syllables, use more or less She’s less practical than her sister. DVDs are more popular than videos.

7 Superlative Adjectives We use them to compare more than two people, thing or places. Mexico City is the biggest city in the Americas. Adjectives Adjective Cheap expensive Comparative Adjectives Cheaper (than) More expensive (than) Superlative Adjective The cheapest The most expensive

8 Superlative Adjectives form Add –est to one syllable adjectives. If the adjective ends in –e, add –st. Remember to use the with superlative. Cheap—the cheapest loose---the loosest If an adjective ends with cvc, double the final consonant before adding –est. Hot—the hottest
