1 The periodic table

2 Calcium Atomic number: 20 Atomic weight: 40.078 Melting Point: 839 C
Boiling Point: 1484 C Electron Configuration: [Ar]4s2 Common Ion: Ca+2 Percent by Mass in Body: 1.5

3 Calcium

4 Zinc Atomic Number : 30 Mass Number: 65.39 Melting pt: 420ºC
Boiling pt: 907ºC Electron Configuration: [Ar] 4s²3d^10 Oxidation States: +2 Percent by mass in Body: <.05

5 Zinc

6 Alkaline Earth Metals Occur naturally only in compounds.
React with water to produce alkaline solutions All alkaline earth elements have an oxidation number of +2, making them very reactive. They are all metals with a shiny, silvery-white color

7 Transition Elements All are metals and most occur naturally in combination with other elements. These elements are very hard, with high melting points and boiling points. High electrical conductivity Positive oxidation states Very hard

8 Why Zinc is different Since it only forms one oxidation state, it doesn’t have the ability to produce color. It doesn’t have the usually high melting and boiling points that most transition metals do, therefore it isn’t the best conductor of electricity like its other group members.
