eGEMS A Dedicated Web Based System for Ground Water Data Processing Analysis and Storage

GEMS - Background  During the Hydrology Project, Phase I, CGWB developed a Dedicated G round Water Estimation and Management System (GEMS) Software  Data entry & data validation  Processing and analysis  GEMS was developed in a client server environment  Integration of GIS, database & other software  It handled a large amount of data,  Originating from about 25,000 manually monitored wells,  About 6000 wells equipped with automatic water level recorders  Exploratory wells etc.

GEMS - Issues  Required Complex installation and configuration  High Database and of IT Expertise by the users.  Dependencies on specific hardware, system software and operating system.  Difficulty in upgrading or changing modular components.  Upgrading GIS software to current version of MapInfo.  Complexity in import and integration of data from  Different instances of GEMS  Other data management systems.  Limited installation not possible as per user levels  Full range of GEMS functionality need to be installed  Wide range of options for small office user

eGEMS - Concept  During Hydrology Project Phase II- It was envisaged to replicate the existing GEMS capabilities into a internet based  Platform independent  Highly reliable  Lesser user intervention  For CGWB and 13 participating Hydrology Project Phase –II State Ground Water Agencies  The Contract for the development of eGEMS application has been awarded to M/S TCS, Gurgoan

eGEMS - Outlines  Internet based platform independent system  Client access from web browsers  No software requirement at user end – Web browser and internet access needed  Single, centralized data store for databases.  Scalable to user requirement

eGEMS | Application Overview Static and Dynamic Data Collection Analysis Module Administration Module Reports & Query Data Exchange Data Management eGEMS Logical Architecture Functional Area Coverage Well Hydromet Station Surface Water Artificial Recharge Structure GeoPhysical Managing Sites Schoeller PiperDurov US Salinity Wilcox Collins’ Bar PieVectorStiff Water Quality Analysis Geo-Physical Exploration Profiling Data Recording Sounding Data Recording Ground Water Assessment GW Balancing Component Estimation Extended Resources Assessment Analysis for Resources Development GIS Analysis Spatial Analysis Cross Section/ Fence Statistical Analysis Time Series Regression Missing Value Computation

eGEMS - Functionality/ Features  Facility for online Data Entry  Water Level  Water Quality  Exploration  Geophysics  Aquifer Parameter – storage  GIS data  Limited offline data entry  Analysis  Hydrogeological  Water Quality  Spatial & Statistics Analysis  Ground Water Resource Assessment  Reports and Queries  Agency specific Reports & Queries  Data Management and Validations  User Administration

eGEMS – Expected Benefits  Centralised application deployment and maintenance.  Availble on Multiple platforms through standard internet browsers.  User specific modules  High availability  Reduced maintenance overheads  Improved data sharing.  User specific data access  Flexible and scalable for future enhancement and integration with external Systems
