3 M A R I N E C O R P S I N S T A L L A T I O N S E A S T 3 Missing Pieces No programmed sustainment training –3-year period between mandated refresher courses (ERC/MSRC) –Training opportunities in between are voluntary e.g., Keith Code/AMOS, Advanced Rider Track Days, Lee Parks Motorcycle club presidents & seasoned riders have no formal training that enables them to assess, coach or mentor less experienced riders

4 M A R I N E C O R P S I N S T A L L A T I O N S E A S T 4 Motor Officer / BikeSafe Assessor MCIEAST contracted MotoMark1, premier provider of professional level motorcycle and ATV training to provide 10 students (9 mil/1 TSS civ) a 5- day, 13-hour-per-day course held at MCAS CP ($27.5K) Students were E5s or above with military career intentions, riding experience, motorcycle safety training, and have ability to provide mentoring and follow- on motorcycle safety training At the exceptionally challenging courses, students became more proficient and safer and improved their motorcycle operator skills These mentors provide training to novices on the “most dangerous” roads in the local area

5 M A R I N E C O R P S I N S T A L L A T I O N S E A S T 5 Results To date, II MEF and MCIEAST have 15 BikeSafe Assessors and have hosted courses assessing over 40 Marines Many of our BikeSafe Assessors have conducted follow-on training, group rides with instruction, and mini ‘track days’ to club members

6 M A R I N E C O R P S I N S T A L L A T I O N S E A S T 6 Recommended Best Practice That Basic Military Police Motorcycle Driver and BikeSafe Assessor courses be instituted as a Marine Corps Best Practice, budget permitting
