5 Helsinki Strong nightlife with many clubs and a wide array of band scenes! Has a strong outdoor scene with many opportunities to hike, swim, boat, cycle and ski. Nuuksio National Park is 30mintues away from city! Features an amusement park, zoo, museums and a seaside fortress for weekend exploration

6 Getting Around Helsinki is very pedestrian friendly City also has extensive public transportation Has a bicycle pathway throughout mot of the city Has a railway system that connects Finland to other European countries including Russia Helsinki's major airport is located 20km north of they city center and has buses that can take you there Port of Helsinki also offers passengers trips to German, Sweden and Estonia among others

7 Quick Facts Water is safe to drink throughout the country Weather temperatures vary by season from below 32 °F in winter to over 86 ° F in summer. You will need a Visa permit Check with your health care provider for any vaccinations you might need. If driving, you must have headlights on! There are no public payphones

8 What to Pack Bring warm, rain-proof, wind-proof outdoor clothing and lighter clothing for warmer months Bring at least one pair of comfortable walking shoes Rain repellant shoes for the winter months Don’t forget your Health Insurance Card! Appliance converter

Few jobs are available Most require fluent Finish or Swedish Housing Application included in the Helsinki online Exchange application Student Dorms: Flat w/3-8 rooms and shared kitchen and bath Student Residence Halls: One-room studio w/kitchen and bath

16 Estimated Costs Cost Per Month: 650-900 Euros or $865 - 1,200 Housing: 250-500 Euro/ month or $330 – 665 There is a 500 Euro housing deposit that is refundable Passport and Visa fees (vary) Clothing, Personal Expenses (vary) Residence Permit and insurance fees

17 ISEP Study Deadline: Fall Semester or Full Year – February 1 st Spring Semester – September 1 st Minimum GPA of 2.75 Completed at least one academic year of university coursework Complete ISEP application as well as University of Helsinki application

18 Costs of ISEP Study A program fee determined by and paid to your home institution A placement fee charged by ISEP Health insurance Travel, passport and visa fees Books and pocket money Fees of optional study tours

19 ISEP Student Benefits Receive a stipend for three daily meals Accommodation for the entire exchange period including breaks Guaranteed enrollment on a full-time basis Orientation Program Membership in the Student Union Provides reduced costs for meals, reduced fees on trains and subsidized care at the Student Health Service Student Services
