2 What this unit is about Colour and light are a part of our experience of the world designers select and place colour and light in the environment to become part of others’ and/or our own experience three key aspects – theoretical knowledge, aesthetic composition and purposeful intention. DTB302 is an introduction to these three aspects. –the theory of light and colour –to explore colour and light relationships and application –to integrate these principles with design in a purposeful way

3 How this unit is run DTB302 is run primarily online –All lectures online: Blackboard AND http://dtb302.jimdo.comhttp://dtb302.jimdo.com –Learning is self-paced, and self-directed –There will be some weeks where you will be required to physically attend class at QUT GP –If the schedule changes, you will be informed of the physical attendance requirement with at least five (5) working days notice

4 How this unit is run –Week 1 lecture (GP Z303) and tute (GP F201-7) –Weeks 2 and 3: Lectures and tutes online –Week 4: Meet you @GP F201-4 (to deliver brief for Ass 2) – we will be taking a look at the J Block Workshop BUT we won’t be working in there –Week 5: Lectures and tutorials online –Weeks 6, 7 and 8: Lectures and tutes online –Week 9: tutes in GP F201-7 from 9am –Weeks 10, 11, 12: Lectures and tutes online –Week 13: Present your assignment in GP F201-7

5 Benefits of online Why online? –Flexibility: You can structure your schedule to watch the lectures and most tutes when you like –Pace: a student-centered teaching approach because you have your own way of learning that works for you. You can understand the material completely before moving on to the next ‘bit’ –Accessibility: Online course materials can be accessed 24 hours a day every day. –No commute: For most of the semester, you don’t have to come to uni –Work/life balance: you can better balance your job/other commitments and class –Effectiveness: Online education is effective. Numerous studies have found that students taking online courses outperformed their peers in traditional classrooms (and it was true for when we did this last year).
