1 A NCIENT A MERICAN E MPIRES Created by Mrs. Shelly V. Fontenot Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion

2 I NTRODUCTION You are an anthropologist dropped into the “New World” to gather information about the Ancient American Empires. You will either study the Aztecs, Incas, or the Mayans. Your job is to gather as much information as possible to create a “Time-Travel” brochure about that empire.

3 T ASK Discover answers to the questions. You are learning about the empire’s society. With your findings, create a brochure that allows others to “go back in time” to learn about the empire. You will give credit to the resources that helped you in your discovery. Make sure to cite the sources you used to find answers or pictures. This will be your bibliography page.

4 P ROCESS : S TEP 1 First click on the pencil and pad. This will open to the questions you are to discover the answers. Print this page out. Then click on the computer to go to Portaportal. Go to Guest Access. Type in SDVFontenot then click on visit. Use the given websites to find the answers to your questions. If you decide to use WorldBookOnline, make sure to get the login and password from your teacher. Click on the stairs for the next step.

5 E VALUATION Click on the A in order to print out the rubric. Turn in with your brochure and bibliography. Do not turn in your answers to the questions. If you wrote your paragraphs correctly, the answers are on your brochure.

6 C ONCLUSION Congratulations!!! You did it!!! You have successfully discovered a wealth of information about an Ancient American Empire. Now you are ready to share your information with the world. Then learn about the other empires that your fellow peers have discovered.

7 P ROCESS : S TEP 2 You are to open a Word document so you can copy and paste any visual you need and found from the websites. (Will use this for the brochure.) You need to find the following: A map illustrating the physical area controlled by that group. Visuals (examples: major buildings, clothing, religious attire, pottery, etc.) Illustrations of writing and scientific accomplishments (e.g., Aztec calendar)

8 P ROCESS : S TEP 3 With the information you found from the questions, write a description of the empire. Describe how the empire began and the daily life of the people. This has to be a complete paragraph. In another paragraph describe the religion and major accomplishments. In another paragraph describe the cities and temples. In a fourth paragraph describe how the empire ended. After you write the paragraphs, have someone else in the group to check for errors and to make corrections.

9 P ROCESS : S TEP 4 You are now ready to create your “Time-Travel” brochure. Your brochure must include: A map illustrating the physical area controlled by that group. One visuals (examples: major buildings, clothing, religious attire, pottery, etc.) One picture of the empire’s of writing or scientific accomplishments (e.g., Aztec calendar) A timeline show the origin and the ending dates of the culture plus two major events. The paragraph you wrote in Step 3 must be typed on the brochure. Click on the globe in order to open the brochure template. Create your brochure and print once the teacher gives you the okay.

10 P ROCESS : S TEP 5 Take all of the sources you used to find information or pictures and create a bibliography page. To make life easier, click on the thumb in order to go to an automatic bibliography generator. Just enter the necessary information in the correct place.
